SKILLS DEVELOPED IN THE DINOSAUR SET:
TACTILE SENSE little hands are exposed to the finer texture of sand along with the contrasting texture and weight of the larger pebbles, and spikes of the dinosaurs or plants. Pebbles can be warmed in the sun for a temperature difference too.
OLFACTORY SENSE the cinnamon added to the sand adds another level of stimulation using smell.
BILATERAL INTEGRATION by using both hands to play in the tray and to manipulate the sieve, children are learning to integrate sensations from both sides of their bodies.
MIDLINE CROSSING a child’s ability to cross over from the left to right side of their bodies greatly affects reading and writing skills at a later stage.
FINE-MOTOR SKILLS Opening and closing plastic eggs, using the paint brush to excavate dinosaur skeletons, building the dinosaur skeleton and planting the greenery in piles of sand strengthens hand muscles necessary for writing in future years.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS counting dinosaurs or sorting by habitat, size, food choice or colour all strengthen mathematical concepts.
PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS by building the dinosaur skeleton children are taught to provide solutions to the problems they face.
LANGUAGE SKILLS children expand their vocabulary as concepts like herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, extinct, inside, around and size are discussed.
IMAGINATIVE PLAY children are introduced to the world of dinosaurs and will get lost in the endless imaginary world it provides.
